An interactive show, "Murder on the Campaign Trail," attracted about 150 people to the Royal Manor for a comedy-mystery held for the Karen's Korner foundation, honoring the late Karen Calandriello.
A staffer at the Garfield Public Library for more than 20 years, Calandriello died in February 2012. The foundation formed in her name aims to improve the teen room at the library and bring in more materials.
"Karen loved her kids," Garfield Library Director Mary Jo Jennings told Daily Voice. "We're keeping her alive with that."
The show Thursday night followed a political story, as the character Francis Keye announced his candidacy for elected office. During the course of the show, someone gets killed, raising the question of whether the campaign is being sabotaged.
Al Zowada, who knew Calandriello since high school, said Calandriello always envisioned a space for teens and tweens at the library. It's important to have the community involved in the cause, eh said.
"It's a free library," Zowada told Daily Voice. "The more that we do to support that, the better."
