U.S. Attorney Takes Over Mahopac VFD's Missing Millions Investigation

MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara is taking over the investigation into the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department's missing millions of dollars in tax payer funds, according to LoHud.com.

Bharara's office is stepping in not long after reported financial ties between county law enforcement and former Treasurer Michael Klein came to light. Klein resigned his position in September as the investigation picked up steam, LoHud.com reported. 

The volunteer fire department discovered up to $5 million either embezzled or misappropriated in October, Lohud.com said.
