New council members William Huisking and Kristine Morieko were also sworn in.

Packer, a 20-year resident of Glen Rock, has never held public office before but has served in volunteer roles in the borough for the past 15 years. The democrat ousted incumbent John van Keuren in November's election.

"I am excited about the opportunity to be mayor of Glen Rock as we have a wonderful town and I truly believe we can make it even better," Packer told Daily Voice.

Packer, 50, said his top priority will be to find a new police chief and police captain after the retirements of Chief Fred Stahman and Capt. Jonathan Miller at the end of last year.

Packer said he has created a transition team that has already started discussing options.

Packer also said he wants to focus on revitalizing downtown Glen Rock and improving communication between the government and town.
