Teen Suspect Nabbed After Shooting At Long Island 7-Eleven

A teenage suspect was taken into custody over the weekend and charged with attempted murder following a shooting at a Long Island 7-Eleven, police said.

Officers from the Nassau County Police Department responded to the 7-Eleven on Jerusalem Avenue in Hicksville at 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 26, where there was a report of a man who had been shot and collapsed.

The victim, whose name has not been released, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound to his right hip and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Police said that the investigation into the shooting found that 18-year-old Bethpage resident Matthew Escarria drove to the 7-Eleven, got out of his vehicle and fired five shots at his victim, striking him once.

Escarria proceeded to get back in his vehicle and flee on Jerusalem Avenue before being tracked. down, placed under arrest, and charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.

Following his arrest, Escarria was held pending his arraignment on Monday, June 28.
