One minute, the 28-year-old bartender was riding his scooter home after a night out on St. Patrick's Day with friends in Washington DC.

The next, he was in the emergency room at George Washington University Hospital.

Doctors and nurses tell him he was in a crash, but he doesn't remember any of it, his 33-year-old brother, Chris Smith, tells Daily Voice.

"We don’t know the details of how it happened or what caused it, because he woke up in the ER Monday morning with no recollection of anything," Chris said.

But now that Kevin knows his "money maker" is going to heal up just fine, he and his siblings are hoping someone can help them understand what happened.

As of press time, more than $14,000 had been raised on a GoFundMe launched to help offset the costs of the accident, as Kevin will be out of work as a bartender at Atomic Billiards and Rocket Billiards for at least the next two months.

Chris says Kevin was riding home on his scooter with a friend late Sunday, March 17, St. Patrick's Day, when the crash occurred.

"I woke up to a call from the hospital Monday at 6 a.m. saying 'Your brother is here and he's okay,'" Chris said.

Trying to figure piece the facts together wasn't a priority for Chris as his brother's health took the forefront.

He suspects, however, it happened somewhere along Connecticut Avenue or in Cleveland Park, because that's along Kevin's usual route home.

"Maybe he was run off the road by a drunk driver or hit a pothole and went over the handle bars," Chris tells Daily Voice. "We have no idea."

Chris says his brother is in good spirits and made it through a nearly eight-hour surgery Thursday, in which doctors put a plate in his jaw and planted screws to help support his eye sockets.

Chris has no doubt Kevin is going to be just fine, but he's facing a long road to recovery.

"Kevin is a very fun-loving, open type of guy," Chris said. "If you ask anyone who knows him, he’s always cracking jokes.

"He's active in the MMA scene, trains boxing and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at local gyms. He plays basketball and is just an active young guy who works in the service industry.

"He's 100 percent a fighter. He's going to recover very smoothly with love and support from the community."

Dan Schultz, the general manager of Atomic Billiards, said: "Kevin joined the Atomic staff and our community of 'misfit toys' and immediately fit right in.

"It's gonna be a long road, and its gonna be a rough journey but WE and our extended community will be here to support, fundraise and welcome back into our loving arms our silly, overly confidant to hid his kindness, silly floral print shit thats half a size to small B.F.G. little brother."

Chris says his family is looking to get in touch with whomever got his brother to the hospital to thank them and for details of the accident. Anyone who has information is encouraged to email Chris Smith at christopher.smith.9121@gmail.com.

Funds raised by the GoFundMe will help offset medical expenses and make up for the income Kevin Smith will lose out on as he recovers. Click here to donate.
