“I have been in every one of your towns in the last four years due to some weather-related crisis,” said Malloy, who has faced two hurricanes many large snowstorms and an arctic plunge of winter temperatures in his time in office.

The event was sponsored by Cablevison and hosted by The Weather Channel’s Mark Elliott. It was the company’s second annual interactive Connect With Weather program at the magnet school, which serves students in preschool through Grade 8 from Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Milford, Monroe, Shelton, Stratford and Trumbull.

Malloy was introduced by Principal Sangeeta Bella and immediately apologized for speaking with a touch of laryngitis. Then he shared his take on weather conditions with the excited students and told of the extreme weather challenges he faced during his first four years in office.

"If you are from Milford, I have been on Silver Sands Beach," the governor said. "If you are from Fairfield, I have been on your waterfront after the damage caused by Superstorm Sandy. And if you’re from Bridgeport, I’ve been there after Sandy caused the flooding in Marina Village.”

The governor warned of the impact of global climate change with the ever-worsening weather as he talked to the students at Inter-district Discovery Magnet School, which has a focus on the study of science, technology and mathematics.

“Man’s behavior is having an impact on our weather,” said Malloy. “What we have put into the air is causing the release of greenhouse gases. And our severe weather will be with us for many more years to come.”

Malloy ended his talk by praising the students for their “behavior and attentiveness.” The governor added, “You’ve made my day a little brighter.”

Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch was also on hand for the event. He said he loved that the school is focused on science, noting “that will make the planet better.”

“I love coming to this school,” Finch told the students. “You’re right next door to our science museum. This is the coolest place in the world to go to school.”
