Opening Of Weston Schools Delayed By Snapped Pole

WESTON, Conn. -- The Weston schools were opening on two-hour delay Tuesday as cleanup continues with the fallen tree and restoration of power on School Road after an overnight incident.

Only the Lord’s Highway end of campus will be open for the entrance and exit of vehicles.

"We ask that parents please put their students on school buses this morning and not drive their students to campus, if at all possible," said a statement from Superitendent Colleen Palmer.

For Wilton Intermediate and Hurlbutt Elementary parents who must drive their students – the school cannot accept that traffic on campus until 10:45 a.m.

"The front drop-off of HES will be shut down this morning, and all vehicles for HES will drop off students in the back bus loop.  We need to have all bus traffic drop off students and exit campus before we can accept parent vehicles today for WIS and HES," said the statement.

Students who are dropped off at WIS and HES will be excused for late arrival to school.

"We expect that both entrances to School Road will be open for the dismissal of school, and will send an updated notice ... today at 1:30 p.m. apprising you of progress and any possible adjustments that could be required for dismissal today," Palmer said.

"We thank you for your patience with this situation and appreciate your use of our school buses this morning for transporting your students to school."
