According to the agenda, before the 5 p.m. meeting at John Read Middle School an executive session will be held to discuss legal matters pertaining to the 2014-15 operating budget.

The meeting will then open for public comments from residents and board members. That will be followed by board discussion and possible action on the 2014-15 budget and the minimum budget requirement.

According to Hello Redding, the Board of Finance voted to ask the Board of Education to cut the school budget by $300,000. This cut would bring the budget plan under the minimum budget requirement set by the state for districts with declining enrollment.

If Redding cuts the budget below the minimum budget requirement, it could lose state funds provided though Educational Cost Sharing, Hello Redding reported.

If a lower budget were approved, Redding could apply to the state for a waiver, Hello Redding reported.
