Hruska, an Upper School English teacher, will use her grant to fund a writers’ retreat at a cabin in Maine’s Acadia National Park, where she plans to produce a publishable piece of writing that she will share with her students during the 2015-16 school year.

Yacko, an assistant teacher at Landmark Preschool’s Redding campus, will adopt a puppy to train as a therapy dog. After the trained dog reaches 18 months of age, Yacko will take it to visit people recovering from crisis situations or others who may benefit from a therapy dog.

The Ridgefield Academy Faculty Enrichment Grants recognize teachers with ideas for professional development that must take place outside the traditional school setting. A competitive selection process results in two awardees every year. This year is the first year the awards have been available to assistant teachers.

The Ridgefield Academy is a co-educational, independent day school for students enrolled in preschool through eighth grade.
