The Easton, Redding and Region 9 school districts are welcoming a new superintendent, Thomas McMorran, who took the post July 1 from Bernard Josefsberg, who retired after for years as superintendent.

McMorran was replaced as head of school at Joel Barlow High School by interim leader Gina Pin this fall. Pin was previously the assistant head of school there.

According to the Easton Courier, the estimated student populations for the district this fall are:

580 students for Samuel Staples Elementary School in Easton;

304 students for Helen Keller Middle School in Easton;

420 students for Redding Elementary School;

470 students for John Read Middle School in Redding; and

1,022 students at Joel Barlow High School.

For the new school year, parking lot and sidewalk improvements have been made at Redding Elementary School and John Read Middle School.

Christopher Basta was appointed assistant principal at Redding Elementary. He replaced Tracy Edwards, who is director of special education for kindergarten to eighth grade in Easton and Redding.

At Helen Keller Middle School, students will be in class a bit longer than last year.  The district has added 15 minutes to the school day for the students, the Courier reported.
