Nicole Wilhelm will be the new assistant principal of Weston Intermediate. She will take the place of Doreen O’Leary, who has taken a principal’s position in Southbury.
Wilhelm has been the literacy specialist at Greens Farms Academy. Before that she had been a teacher at Kings Highway School in Westport. She holds bachelor’s degrees in elementary education and psychology from Southern Connecticut State University and a master’s degree in reading from the Columbia University Teachers College.
“Ms. Wilhelm is an excellent addition to our leadership team, and I am confident that she will work tirelessly to advance Weston’s high expectations for student learning and performance,” Superintendent Colleen Palmer said in a press release.
The school board also named Monika Schmidt-Edman as Weston’s assistant director of pupil services, a new position for the 2013-14 school year. She will work in the district’s Pupil Services and Special Education Department, which oversees school psychologists, counselors, special education programs and similar areas.
Schmidt-Edman comes to Weston from Stratford, where she was most recently the town’s coordinator of pupil personnel services. Before that she worked for Cooperative Education Services as a program director, therapeutic day program leader and special education teacher. She holds bachelor’s, master’s and sixth-year degrees from Southern Connecticut State University.
“The new position of Assistant Director of Special Education is a critical addition to our pupil services and special education program, and we are excited to have found such a highly qualified candidate to assist our Director of Pupil Services,” Palmer said in a press release.
Both appointees are due to start their new jobs on or about Aug. 1.
