WESTON, Conn. Weston High School is ranked fourth in the U.S. News & World Reports Best High Schools in Connecticut listing, receiving a gold medal and a top ranking in the results, which were just released.
The magazine applauded Weston for its high rankings on Connecticut Academic Performance Tests, which gauge student skills in math, science, reading and writing. Weston students achieved a 99 percent ranking in reading proficiency, 98 percent in math proficiency and a 54.8 on the college readiness index. The college readiness index is based on exam participation rates and students passing at least one exam.
Weston High was also lauded for its Advanced Placement coursework and exams it offers. A total of 60 percent of the Weston High students participate in AP programs.
Weston trailed only Connecticut International Baccalaureate Academy in East Hartford, Conrad High School in West Hartford and Ridgefield High School in the rankings and topped the rest of the state's 195 high schools.
This is just one measurement among many different types of measurements that affirm how we feel about the school, said principal Lisa Wolak. Im very proud of the school and the community that supports it.
Colleen Palmer, superintendent of Weston schools, said, This noteworthy distinction is based on the outcome of excellent teaching and outstanding students dedicating themselves to education goals. We celebrate the students success and recognize the work of teachers and administrators to support our schools.
