O’Leary will take over as principal of Madison’s Island Avenue Elementary School on July 1. She has been at Weston Intermediate since July 2012. Before that, she was assistant principal of Hurlbutt Elementary School.

“Doreen has been an invaluable member of our leadership team and an exemplary assistant principal at both Hurlbutt Elementary School and Weston Intermediate School,” Superintendent Colleen Palmer said in a press release. “Given her talent and level of expertise, she will make an excellent principal. We wish her all the best in her new position.”

With O’Leary’s departure, Weston now has two assistant principal positions to fill. Michael Bernardi announced last week that he was leaving his post at Weston Middle School to take a principal position in Southbury.

The district’s human resources department has started a search for both candidates. The Board of Education hopes to have replacements lined up by July 1.
