Motorists and residents should be on the lookout as the buses hit the roads and as kids begin hiking off to classes.
School kicks off Monday, Aug. 24 for Weston Public School students.
Students at Weston Middle School will see new faces, including newly appointed Principal Daniel Doak, who previously served as assistant principal of Weston High School.
"Mr. Doak is an integral part of the Weston High School community, and his presence there will be greatly missed by his colleagues and the students," the school district said in a statement. "The District will immediately begin its search for Mr. Doak’s replacement, and we are confident that Weston will attract numerous interested candidates."
At the high school, students will find a new assistant principal, Juliane Givoni. Since 2012, Givoni has served as the Instructional Leader for Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts at Joel Barlow High School in Redding.
This year students at the town's elementary schools will generally not be allowed to bring food into school such as cupcakes for classroom celebrations. But the school district's Wellness Committee recommends that students be able to bring food into the classroom for four events with the appropriate safeguards: Halloween; one occasion representing all December holidays (date determined by the individual schools); Valentine’s Day; and the end of the year.
"The main reason for this decision is the increased number of students with a wide variety of food allergies," the school district said in a statement. "A secondary reason is the increase in students with specific medical illness, such as Celiac and Diabetes, as well as students on specific types of diets to address a disability, such as Autism. It has become very difficult to control for all of these variables at birthday parties."
