Young Readers Reap $40K for Wilton Schools

WILTON, Conn. – Wilton elementary school students earned a whopping $40,000 for their schools in a weeks-long fundraising drive called "Reading Rocks!"

The Wilton Education Foundation fundraiser enlisted some 1,200 kindergarten through fifth grade students in a program of reading, by themselves or with parents. The reading part of the competition spanned from April 25 to May 6, and the students were encouraged to gain pledges beforehand.

When the foundation tallied the forms, they awarded Cider Mill Elementary School’s Nod Hill House a free pass for no homework. First-graders at Miller-Driscoll Elementary School won an extra recess for their number of forms.

All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the schools.
