EASTON, Conn. -- Hartwick College freshman Brittney Dumas, an Easton native and Joel Barlow High graduate, was honored as the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference's Division III Upstate Rookie of the Year after her stellar first season of playing basketball with the Hawks.

Dumas, who also was named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year and to the conference’s second team last month, finished as the top scorer this season with an average of 14.5 points per game at Hartwick College in Oneonta, N.Y. Her 434 total points ranked as the tenth-highest single-season total in program history.

In addition to scoring, Dumas led the Hawks in field goals made (179), field-goal percentage (.526), offensive rebounds (77), and blocked shots (23). She was second in rebounding on the squad (6.4 r/gm).

Dumas’ field-goal percentage this season ranks as 24 in the category nationally. Among freshman, only three other players in Division III basketball shot a higher percentage from the field this season.

She helped the Hawks to the ECAC Metro Championship this past weekend after averaging 15 points and 8.7 rebounds in three contests. She notched a career-high six blocks in the quarterfinal round in a 71-57 win over Staten Island, and added 13 points in ’Wick’s 69-64 overtime victory in the semifinals over Rutgers-Newark. In the championship against Brooklyn College, Dumas registered her fourth double-double of the season with game-highs of 16 points and 11 boards.
