The long program will be skated Saturday at Boston University's Agganis Arena to decide the winner.
The Haydenettes, based in Lexington, Mass., are designated as USA Team No. 1 for the world championships, which are being held in their backyard. The team skated its short program to "Run this Town" by Jay-Z featuring Kanye West and Rihanna and scored 71.87 points.
The Haydenettes won their 21st national title in March. The athletes are 18 to 26 years old and come from across the country. Kynoch, 18, was a member of the team last year when it won bronze at worlds. She is a graduate of Joel Barlow High School in Redding and now attends Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.
Nexxice, Canada Team No. 1, was in first place after the short program with 72.84 points. Paradise, Russia Team No. 1, was in third place with 69.66 points. Miami University of Ohio, USA Team No. 2, was in 10th place with 56.38 points. A total of 20 teams from five continents are competing.
