Fairfield County Skaters Help Synchro Teams Win Medals

STAMFORD, Conn. – Girls from Fairfield County helped Skyliners synchronized skating teams win two gold medals at the Eastern Championships last weekend in Lake Placid, N.Y. The Skyliners will send seven teams to the U.S. championships later this month.

The Skyliners’ Juvenile and Preliminary teams won Eastern championships. The Prepreliminary and Novice teams took silvers, and the Intermediate team won a pewter (fourth place) medal. Junior and Senior teams did not compete at Easterns but were granted byes to the U.S. championship. The Skyliners train out of New York and Stamford.

Girls on the Juvenile team include Darien’s Maggie Brooks and Katharine Foster; Greenwich’s Stephanie Achoa, Nathalie Felton and Katherine Elmlinger; Weston’s Arielle Belluck; and Stamford’s Christine Kao.

Girls on the Preliminary team include Darien’s Mia Sparks; Greenwich’s Emma Hentemann; New Canaan’s Quincy Connell, Lucy Potter and Sophie Potter; Riverside’s Melissa Woo; Weston’s Jillian Belluck; and Stamford’s Olivia Marshall and Juliette Lipson.

On the Novice team, silver medals went to Greenwich’s Jordyn Young; Westport’s Katherine Orlin; and Stamford’s Erin Crutchley and Tina Isola.

Winning silver medals on the Prepreliminary team were Darien’s Mae Archie and Erin Stevens; Greenwich’s Amanda Park, Caroline Park and Sherlynn Arcuri; New Canaan’s Katerina Root and Isabella Salant; Westport’s Layla Reejsinghani; and Stamford’s Taylor DelCarmine, Kara McLaughlin and Deanne Gladstone.

Pewter medals for the Intermediate team went to Greenwich’s Raven Vaz, Whitney Elmlinger and Rebecca Wright; New Canaan’s Maddie Zomb; Norwalk’s Skye Griffith; Old Greenwich’s Marisa Goff; Ridgefield’s Catherine Babcock; Westport’s Michaela MacDonald; and Stamford’s Tara Sarkak and Christina Landle.

The Eastern sectionals were held on the rinks that hosted the Winter Olympics in 1932 and 1980.

The Junior and Senior teams competed in international events while the younger lines competed in Lake Placid. The Junior line took fourth place in the French Cup in Rouen, France. The Senior team competed in the Spring Cup in Milan Italy, where they also took fourth.

Girls on the Junior team include Greenwich’s Brooke Abbott and Alexandra Scarpulla. Girls on the Senior team include Greenwich’s Alyssa Fox and Emma Leary and Stamford’s Lily Brouwer.
