Freshman Victoria Goncalves won the 99-pound weight class championship with a 16-1 technical fall over Wilton wrestler Finn McGovern in the championship bout. With the victory, Goncalves became the first girl to win a league championship in the history of the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference.

Goncalves, who is accomplished at judo, came into the tournament as the No. 1 seed. She has been wrestling since she was 5 years old.

Goncalves' victory came in a non-scoring class, and did not add to Danbury's team total. Still, the Hatters rolled to another league title, compiling 293 points. Fairfield Warde was second with 222 points.

Jakob Camacho (106 pounds), Aaron Occhipinti (113 pounds), Jeremy Fields (120 pounds), Johnny Garcia (182 pounds) and Marcus Joyner (220 pounds) also won titles for Danbury.

It was the third title for Garcia, a senior. He missed becoming a four-time champion when the 2013 league championships were canceled due to snow.

Danbury, a wrestling powerhouse, will compete this weekend in the state Class LL championships at Trumbull. The Hatters are the defending State Open champions.
