Weston 8th Grade Football Remains Undefeated

WESTON, Conn. – Weston’s eighth-grade football team enters the final week of the regular season undefeated in the Fairfield County Football League. The biggest hurdles, however, are ahead for the young players.

Weston beat Wilton on Sunday, 20-7, to improve to 7-0. Two Darien teams are also undefeated entering the final weekend. Weston finishes against New Canaan Red (7-1) Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Weston High School.

Jason Lawrence scored on an 80-yard run, and Alex Fruhbeis had two long touchdown runs in the second quarter to give Weston a 20-0 lead at halftime.

The offensive line of John Murphy, Nate Jacobson, Peter Jegan, Robbie Waltzman, Michael Otworth, Brandon Postlethwaite, Jackson Quist and Stephen Tyler paved the way for Weston’s ground game. Quarterbacks Dom DeCaro and Fruhbeis executed Weston’s game plan well.

The defense was led by captain Zach Spencer. A Wilton touchdown with three minutes left spoiled the shutout. Peter Achar, Jackson Aguas, Konrad Freitag, Gavin Wrynn, Ben Haupt,  Elijah Hutchinson, Brendan Kirk, Nicholas Lange, Bobby Lummis, Owen McCarthy, Matthew Oakes and Sal Vento played outstanding defense.

Saturday’s game will be critical for postseason seeding for Weston. The league playoffs begin Oct. 27. The championship games are scheduled for Nov. 17.
