The Trojans (0-2) meet Notre Dame of Fairfield (also 0-2) for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Weston raised nearly $300,000 to fund the stadium lights. The effort was led by the Stadium Light Committee and its chairman, Michael Carter. The group began seeking donations late last year. Final approval came in July.

Lights for the football stadium field had been discussed in Weston for 20 years, athletic director Mark Berkowitz told The Hour earlier this year, before they finally came through.

The game will feature the return of some players from the 1989 Weston team, the only Trojan squad to play in the state title game. About 20 players from the team and six former coaches from all over the country will be honored at a halftime ceremony at the game.

Youth football players are encouraged to join in the “Trojan Tunnel” to greet players as they head for their pre-game routine at 6:45 p.m. There will also be comments from town and school officials.

Weston has had two tough losses under first-year coach Chris Pace. In its opening game, Weston fought back to take the lead on Bethel in the second half before the Wildcats answered with two late scores to pull out a 38-27 victory. Weston trailed Pomperaug, 14-0, at the end of the first quarter last Friday, pulled within 14-13 at halftime, but ended up losing, 21-13.

Weston has had a nice balance to its offense. Sophomore quarterback Alex Fruhbeis leads the team in rushing with 124 yards and two touchdowns. He shares time at the position with Spencer Turkel (294 passing yards, three touchdowns). Senior running backs Sam Panton and Peter Lummis and sophomore wide receiver Jason Lawrence have also been among Weston's top offensive contributors.
