Weston Youth Cheer Team Heading To Florida For National Competition

WESTON, Conn. -- The Weston Youth Trojans cheerleading team finished second in the American Youth Cheerleading New England Regional competition and will travel to Florida next week for the national championships.

The Weston Youth Cheerleading team will compete in a national competition Dec. 13 in Orlando. The team qualified by finishing second last month at the New England Regional competition.

The girls in grades 6 to 8 finished second in the regional in Manchester, N.H. They will compete Saturday, Dec. 13, in Orlando against teams from across the nation.

The national trip will be a first for the organization, which started in 2012.

Weston’s competitive season began in October with an event in Waterbury, and continued in November with the state competition in New Haven.

Girls on the team are: eighth-graders: Head Captain Emma Hoffman, Co-captain Vivienne Jacobson,  Co-captain Hannah Daniels, Riley Aguas, Caroline Olsen, Alexa Kripke; seventh-graders: Abby Tanzer, Jolie Jeffrey-Craft; and sixth-graders: Natasha Colaprico, Bianca Schwartz, Sophia Bolatescu, Julia Ann Gregory.

Katia Colaprico is the coach, assisted by Janet Hoffman and Tara Tanzer. Kathie Fitzgerald is the group’s vice president of cheer.

The team is soliciting donations to support the trip to Florida. Donations can be made online or written directly Weston Trojans Youth Football & Cheer (WTYF&C) and sent to Kit Woolverton, Treasurer, 70 Ledgewood Drive, Weston, CT 06883.
