Wait, you don't think those folks -- including an unaccompanied minor obviously not of voting age -- accosting voters in the parking lot as they exited their cars did a good job "instructing"?!
And how do YOU know what was on those "264 ballots"? Did you see them?
I'm sure this is going to mean _another_ law suit from Mrs. Buckley against the town: And (ironically) more complaints from her about how the town's legal bills are too high.... View Comment
I love that argument @MsDanbury. Shall we just abolish all laws, then since only law-abiding people follow them anyway?
And yes, a crazy man in China did get into a school and stab 18 children. The difference between that and Newtown? Those children are all still alive. View Comment
Well, thank goodness that Mr. Bromer is embarrassed. He should be.
The freedom of speech does not allow for the disruption of meetings. And we're not talking about public comment, we're talking about subsequent agenda items. Do other citizens not have the right to have their items heard? These "gentlemen" and their (small) posse attempt to hijack Easton selectmen meetings.
If Mr. Webbe had actually managed to get more than a dozen votes and win the 1st Selectman race himself, then I guess he could talk all he wanted throughout the entire meeting. View Comment
Mr. Webbe's script: "Maybe if I say 'transparent' enough times, no one will notice that I am by far the least qualified person in this race that I was instrumental in getting the town to pay $4K for!" [Insert mentions of freedom and wave flag!] View Comment
Below is the letter sent by the Easton 9/11 Committee to 9/11 families.
Note how they claim: "We have over 1000 signatures from town residents...for building the 9/11 Memorial as it is currently designed and located." This is a lie. They only circulated a petition to call the issue to a town meeting. Then they widely and repeatedly mis-represented it as the above.
By disseminating the below, they intentially caused unnecessary additional grief to untold 9/11 families. The respones that came back to the elected and appointed town officials prove that.
I have no idea the identity of "Bookmark" above. But I know much -- if not all -- of the reprehensible behavior that s/he cites, to be 100% correct. .
I am deeply embarrassed by the actions of the 9-11 Committee, with the changing of the architect's safety plans and his subsequent resignation being just the latest.
Dear 9/11 Families:
We urgently need your help!
Since 2002 a group of citizens appointed as the 9/11 Memorial Committee has been working on constructing a Memorial in memory of all 9/11 victims, particularly Peter, Sue and Christine Hanson. Peter was a native son of Easton . His parents, Lee and Eunice are our neighbors and friends. Christine was the youngest victim that day. She was only two years old. Peter was able to call his parents from the plane to tell them it was going into a building. He wanted them to know that it would be over quickly; that the three of them were huddled together; and that they loved Lee and Eunice.
A stunning design for the Easton 9/11 Memorial was developed by a pro bono architect and approved by the local town boards. However, our Planning and Zoning Board has refused to allow us to place the memorial on the designated municipal site, a grassy island in the library parking lot. Roadblock after roadblock has been set up by our First Selectman's office to prevent this memorial from being built as proposed. We now understand that there is an attempt by the selectmen to disband this committee and reduce the Memorial to nothing more than a flag pole with a plaque. It is clear this is a political attack on our friend, Mr. Hanson. He is involved in local government and is an honorable steward for our community.
We have over 1000 signatures from town residents, as well as the support of local media stations and newspapers, for building the 9/11 Memorial as it is currently designed and located. There are no tax payer dollars involved in this effort. Private citizens have come forward with donations of dollars and services. We believe it is important for future generations to remember and understand the worst attack in our nation's history.
We are all grievously pained by your losses. We know that you understand the pain Lee and Eunice feel, and hope that you will be moved to assist us in this effort. Please help us to get this Memorial built by emailing the Easton Board of Selectmen and the Chairman of Planning and Zoning with your support for the Memorial and your outrage at the political games Easton leaders are playing. Their email addresses are below.
Thank you for anything you are moved to do on behalf of our efforts.
The Easton , Connecticut 9/11 Memorial Committee
