1. There is a graphic language warning immediately following the description of what you're about to watch. Possibly, you should read it. 2. We've no idea where these kids go to school, do we? For all we know, they could be enrolled in the Fairfield Public school system since they're not in any kind of uniforms. There aren't many outdoor skate parks, and they weren't breaking any laws, they were getting exercise. 3. If the language is offensive, turn down the volume as was previously suggested, however, if you do, then you would miss them asking at least one individual if they were okay. Since none of them were professional firefighters, police officers or emt's, they were correct in not entering a disaster scene when professionals were already on scene or sirens could be heard on their way. One young man was smart in advising the other to stay clear of the tracks since they didn't know which were carrying electricity. So, regardless of language used, these young people used their heads in NOT entering a dangerous scene w/o the proper training and becoming potential victims themselves. They did, however provide us w/ up close footage that we otherwise would not have had. In hindsight, they probably realized they shouldn't have been in/at the scene b/c of the dangers involved. this priest was under suspension at the time, to begin w/. secondly, "the church" didn't do this, the ex-priest did while under the influence of meth. he's been convicted in a court of law and will do his prison time as a result of his crime, which is 10 years. as in other cases the church has and does deal w/ each of one them individually. a number of priests have gone to jail for molestation and the church has paid out millions in settlements. the Pope and bishops around the world have recognized this and dealt w/ it on an emotional and monetary basis both. perhaps, it would behoove you to recognize this ongoing fact. According to another article I read, this is the 3rd time this same store has been robbed in the last several years. It could be due to the easy access to Black Rock and in turn the Merritt Parkway-easy get away? Also, the article mentioned heavier security there now, as in you have to be buzzed in and cameras. You should fasten your seat belt and put your child in a car seat; both have been proven to save lives. But telling people to smoke/not smoke in their cars is crossing the line. It's the same as telling them what or not to do in the privacy of their homes as was stated in the article. Best case scenario, at least roll the windows down so the child doesn't inhale the 2nd hand smoke as it's been proven to be hazardous to everyone's health. View Comment

Great post, Ken. You should run for, something. Consider it. I'm not being sarcastic, either. We don't need our rights taken away, we need the individuals who need the help to get better treatment, or in this case, any treatment. We don't need to have those programs have their funding cut. You're correct in that if those guns had been properly secured, this tragedy wouldn't have happened. You're also correct in stating that this is being held up as a the "event" to alter our rights. More young people die on the streets of Bridgeport per year due to the usage of hand guns, but Obama and Biden aren't giving speeches about them, or attending their funerals. Wonder why. Guess they're aren't as important, nor are the kids of Chicago, or LA. By no means am I lessening the horror of Newtown; I'm not, but let's please not forget the teens who die each and every day across this country and it's not by means of a rifle. These laws won't change those numbers one iota; criminals won't line up for background checks, or gun permits. And they certainly aren't concerned w/ safe storage, so how does Obama intend to change that particular element. View Comment

Why is everyone into banning everything these days? Prior to buying any plantings for your yard, I would suspect that any homeowner would ask the typical questions: What type of light, water, growing conditions, including soil conditions, pruning, etc., in order to have whatever you've purchased, grow successfully. Even under the best of conditions, and w/ all of the knowledge you've gained after asking the questions, plants don't always do what we want them to, so we try again. Yes, there are some that are invasive such as, bittersweet that chokes out our Maples and Oaks. It's also not native to CT; it was brought here years ago as a decorative plant and is no longer sold by nurseries. I do know that some bamboo will reseed and "run" across streets if not kept in check. View Comment

I agree and the title of the article is a bit misleading; it makes it sound as if Jim's holding up the so-called ban. But, Dierdre will work w/ him? Seriously. As Jim stated, the paper bags cost twice as much as the plastic, so how is she going to work w/ him. First of all, whenever I shop there, I either carry out the few items that I purchase, or I bring in my own bag. Problem solved. Rarely, I've needed a plastic bag, but when I have, I've reused them at home for other things and then recycled them as I do everything else. Again, problem solved. The other suggestion of having a Weston designed bag is a good one; I'd buy one. And, finally, it should be left up to the state legislation to ban these things. View Comment

Thank you for your explanation, I think. When you have people coming here, saying that 3 towns did a great job and 1 didn't, that's fairly telling, imo. It's consistent, too. So, that speaks to the ability of either the snow plowers, the manner if which it was done, or something else was amiss. I also drove through Westport and encountered no difficulties there. Obviously, we've all heard about the insane problems in B-port. Granted, we had an inordinate amount of snow, but still to have as many towns w/ no problems as opposed to towns w/ as many complaints tells a story which, again, imo deserves an explanation considering we all pay taxes not only in the towns in which we reside, but the state as well. In short, some of the state monies are going to towns that didn't fare well. There needs to be an accountability. View Comment

Weston did an amazing job, too; plowed right down to the asphalt. I heard the plows going up and down the street numerous times at the height of the storm. I heeded the warnings and stayed off the roads, but did go out on Sunday after the ban was lifted and found Fairfield to be a mess much to my surprise. Matter of fact, I was going down Bronson Rd where there was 3-4" of snow on the road and there was a plow coming the opposite direction w/ his blade up? Really? How exactly does that remove snow. Fairly shocking. I passed another plow who was parked, the guy was reading a book. Granted they all need breaks, I completely get that, but to be driving along w/ the blade up does not make any sense whatsoever, especially when there's that much snow on the road. Again, great job Weston!! Yes, I personally thanked one of the plow guys that I saw :) View Comment

It was done for the safety of the 1st Responders as many individuals became stranded b/c they went out, regardless. Forget the "timely manner," why should 1st Responders risk their lives to rescue you b/c you can't/won't heed warnings? 1st Responders will always answer the call for life threatening situations.
