Think of all the trees we can plant if we used the West Ave dead zone as a park contiguous with Oyster shell and the Maritime instead of more overdevelopment. Or instead of expanding Washinton Village. It's nice to be a tree city, but it would be nicer to start preserving nice pieces of property for the taxpayers instead of viewing everything as revenue getters.
Shouldn't need cameras, people saw what happened no doubt. Areas go downhill like this when people keep their mouths shut and accept criminal activity as the norm. I feel bad for the victim but that area is what it is because of those who live there, so they deserve little sympathy. Good neighborhoods are made by good people. Norwalk needs to stop looking for bottom feeders so it can get grant money and start making an effort to get good productive people to move here.
Sad to see such hate today, but it often wonder why nobody cares if it's something similar directed at heterosexuals or white people. Discrimination is bad no matter what and we should stop acting like gay people and minorities are the only ones who get offended or are discriminated against. Our own city often discriminates against white people, how often do we hear about them actively seeking Latinos or other ethnicities for positions and appointments. If anyone openly sought white people over others they'd be tarred and feathered. Discrimination stinks even when committed by those pretending to seek equality. Equality cannot exist alongside affirmative action or in a society which discriminates for any reason. View Comment
Maybe they should look at the frequency with which people who intervene are arrested & prosecuted. I think a lot more people would;d take action on the spot when they see a violent crime, sexual in nature or not, happening if we had less of a tendency to prosecute them for it. Helping by calling BEFORE things happen is dangerous for citizens too because people make mistakes but once the authorities are involved they are tenacious and a misplaced domestic conviction is a life changing event. Its not easy but would be easier if the state wasn't so much more hung ho about conviction numbers than actually making a difference.
Income inequality is a misnomer in many cases. So we have wealthy areas & not so wealthy areas, big deal. Increased poverty is something the politicians around here seek so they can get grants, build more low income housing, import more poor people, apply for grants, build more low income housing & so on. Rent is high in Norwalk because taxes are high in Norwalk. Taxes are high in Norwalk because an ever increasing chunk of us lives off of the taxes.
The BEST thing we can do for Norwalk & its tax paying population is start REDUCING low income housing. Its past time to stop blaming employers & productive people for our issues. If people cannot afford it here they should move or work to lower the cost of living, instead of milking the system and then crying because its so expensive. View Comment
Just my opinion but this should be run by volunteers. Im pretty sure there are plenty of unemployed young adults in the SONO area with plenty of time to volunteer and help the community which so generously provides for them. View Comment
a hundred year old bridge for a hundred and fifty year old mode of transportation.
I realize railroads are important but at some point we NEED to address what they cost the state to run. When introduced they turned a profit and were self sufficient. Thats needs to return I think, its unfair to tax us all so a small chunk can afford to commute.
If they do that will we stop bussing SONO kids into other area schools? If not why worry about residents without a school in their district? Either districts matter or they do not. If we are going to ignore them like we do now then a new school is a waste of money if we have room in existing schools. View Comment
This is a great example of the hypocrisy of this state. We pass super powered new gun control punishing ALL legal honest gun owners for the actions of ONE lunatic, in the name of school safety. But then we catch somebody with a gun on school property who shoots somebody during a drug deal & don't even charge him with possession of a gun on school property? Disgusting. We charge a man who shot another on school property with robbery and assault? This state has big issues from the top down. View Comment
Sad fact is if it had been an abduction sitting back & calling police might not be fast enough. Why would people watch this & let him drive away if they thought something bad was going on? At the very least follow the guy. View Comment
Lets turn that around. What do you suggest when an officer waves a gun at you? If YOU would not be justified then neither should the officer.
Seems obvious that BOTH men had a gun in their hand but only one started shooting. Im not anti cop but Cops are just people and should be treated like the rest of us in most cases. When people see an officer with a gun in his hand they don't start shooting, when an officer sees a man with a gun in his hand, especially on his own property, it shouldn't mean to start shooting. He pushes for a lot of things, how about pushing for LOWER taxes, something that would enable everyone in CT to do more WITHOUT STATE SUBSIDIES.
Doesn't it dawn on these Democrats that we only NEED help because of the outrageous tax burden they place on those of us who work for a living?
CUT STATE spending and "We The People" wouldn't NEED you Bob.
“All people deserve a decent and affordable place to live, and public housing provides exactly that to thousands of families across our state."
Not exactly, the TAXPAYERS provide exactly that to an ever increasing number of people who cannot afford it here.
What Mr Duff & the Democrats ignore is the fact that they have created a state where fewer and fewer people who work for a living can find decent affordable places to live. One of the reasons for the extraordinary tax burden we are under is the success the Democrats have had attracting lower income families to our cities. So in actuality this is an award for increasing the number of needy people in the state. And the more of them we have the more solidly the Democrats grasp on us gets. Why any of this is viewed in a positive light is beyond me. Shouldn't we be working towards creating a community where MORE people can afford to feed themselves & LESS people need assistance?
Perpetuating poverty for political gain seems to be the Democrat business plan in CT. View Comment
Agreed, Im not voting for fake Republicans anymore either. Its sad, every single Republican state legislator in the area should be a Democrat. Cafero, Wood, all of them are a disgrace to the office they hold. View Comment
Anybody is better than Himes. A congressman who regularly cuts off the ability of his/her constituents to comment on their FB page should be forced to resign anyway. As for Shaban himself I know little about him. How he voted on 1160 will matter a lot to me, probably will be the deciding factor. I REFUSE to vote for anyone who voted for that and given where this guy was elected its very likely he is a Democrat dressed up like a decent citizen. View Comment
Umm, Malloy received a true blue Democratic monopoly when he took office. Nobody with an ounce of common sense can ignore the reality that CTs problems stem, not for a couple meaningless RINO governors but from decades of irresponsible policy for which the Democratic legislature must take responsibility.
I do agree that Republicans have done zero to help with our issues though. They simply cannot be effective here due to again, the decades of Democratic majority in this state.
But this irrational stance is not unexpected coming from a person who supports a party hell bent on keeping minorities in projects & on welfare while telling them that they want to help them. The Democratic party NEEDS to foster ignorance to keep its voting block. But the reality is that everything wrong or right with CT is the result of the Democrats. That the wrong dwarfs the right and yet they still get support defies logic but most people, yourself included, can't seem to be bothered thinking. View Comment
