Read the MTA financial statements (avail on their website) and you will see their challenge. The snowballing cost of pension and healthcare costs, their bloated debt service is another driver of their inability to pay for needed maintenance.
If you want better service, don't count on it being cheap. They have kicked the can for decades and it's finally catching up to them...the math simply isn't working anymore. View Comment
More high cost, unionized government, higher taxes on the way....
This, just a day after the state of Wisconsin's governor turned a $3.6 deficit into a $1 billion surplus and is returning the money to taxpayers.
Quite a contrast.
We are getting an invoice for higher taxes from our Democrat governor. Wisconsin is getting a billion dollar check back from their Republican governor.
The reason they need repairs is that all their cash goes to the bloated union pensions and healthcare costs, their massive debt levels (taken to kick the can) that the politicians fostered. Google 'MTA financials' and read for yourself. It's all right there.
With all due respect, do you liberal pols not see the ramifications of your actions throughout the years? Now to place yourselves as the solution to a problem you created is just sad. Sticking up for us? You are the ones that caused this. View Comment
Food stamps at an all time high. The govt actually ADVERTISES to get more people ON food stamps. So much for the Obama "recovery".
This must be a set up piece for higher taxes and more wealth distribution....that will kill business investment, raise costs and kill more jobs....leading to NEW calls for more wealth redistribution.
...wait for it....
By the way, the article states that "having a car with a full gas tank is necessary to get to grocery stores or food pantries." It is? Really? A FULL tank is required? Is the store 400 miles away? 'Free' gas must be next up.... View Comment
"5th steepest decline in the country"
This is what boosting frivolous spending (and the tax increases that follow later) get you. It may buy you votes today, but it only makes the job of competitiveness harder later. View Comment
Rob, try to keep up. The 'rate' makes for a great headline. The actual number of jobs dropped. There are fewer jobs. The 'rate' went down, because the pool shrunk....in part because people gave up looking for work and are eliminated from the calculation. View Comment
"....as the number of jobs declined".
The "rate" declined because people dropped out of the workforce equation. State spending is up and now there are fewer full time wage earners to pay the tab. part time jobs counted as full time is not telling the story.
Not good. View Comment
The democrats FREAKED OUT when the rate of growth of federal spending was trimmed in the sequester. Mind you, those are not cuts...just reductions in the rate of growth.
If you, however, favor limited government, conservatives would welcome you....liberals will not. View Comment
