If you say that buyers are willing to pay close to the asking price, that may be if the asking price is not underwater. I know homeowners who would like to sell but have no hope because they owe more than the property would sell for. And they did not take cash-outs or HELOCs, just straight repayment (and with initial down payments, as well, not subprime or interest-only mortgages). Curious of the statement that home prices may never reach such values again, and if so, then there is a segment of homeowner who will never recoup their purchase costs. I do not know of anyone who has recently been able to sell their home quickly even though the listing price was well under its recent valuation. View Comment

You read my thoughts, robdyn... The Republicans actually are complaining about a tax reduction??? What gives??? The tax actually kept me from purchasing a new model because I didn't agree with it... So that hurts revenue, too... Actually, I was so frightened that our family would pay more in income taxes if Obama got elected (according to his proposals), I grudgingly supported the GOP even though I did not like the choice of candidates on offer (I came from an Eisenhower Rep family)... With the same income and deductions, the first IRS refund we received under the Obama administration was $3,000 higher than under Bush... View Comment

Oh, really? Everytime I go to check values on my home, it has dropped in value AGAIN... Homeowners selling now have lost a bundle in the last few years, and I know neighbors and friends who would LOVE to sell if they were not hundreds of thousands underwater... Better be prepared to stay in the home for a LONG time because if mortgage rates increase, the price will reflect that, and property taxes have not dropped to the value of the homes at present and are overcharging residents... Who knows what will happen to the mortgage interest tax deduction which is always being threatened? What about the shadow inventory of foreclosures? I know two homeowners who can't afford to stay in their property but cannot sell because more is owed on the mortgage than the home is worth... They have both stopped paying their mortgage last year... Very long, costly road back to normalcy..... View Comment

I am extremely angry at this story -- at myself.... I lived in Easton for years not far from this stable, and I used to complain to my husband about what I thought were unacceptable conditions for the horses there out in the fields with no shelter in summer heat and winter, wet cold... I owned horses for over a decade and support horse charities, and yet I did nothing... The only explanation I have (which is NO excuse) is that I felt I would be treated with contempt... My first experience when our famliiy arrived in Easton was to be inundated with demands from the Animal Control dept to 'pay for my dog's license' -- I have not owned a dog in over two decades, so when I asked them to check their records, the broken-record woman kept insisting I had a dog and that my neighbor had informed Animal Control I surely owned a dog... When I kept asking for some 'proof', the woman hung up on me... I concluded that they were a very poorly run entity and pretty useless... I have no excuse for inaction by myself, but I would have hoped that the Animal Control Dept would surely be aware of the poor conditions -- the hapless horses were kept in fields right on Sport Hill Rd... If the Animal Control workers did not intervene or at least report the very visible poor conditions, what were they getting paid for??? Easton residents pay sky-high property taxes for services... I am disgusted with myself for lack of response, and I have high praise for Ms Rasmussen who took action... She is an angel for the desperately neglected horses... If writers here support the condidtions the animals were kept in, then they need new glasses -- no sane person would agree that the horses were in acceptable health... View Comment
