Loveithere, on the other hand, I started getting the shots 15 years ago, while generally my family of 4 did not. People all around me were sick multiple times while I was not. So the flu shot appeared to work for me. View Comment
DLB, you have it right, it's an important issue but there is plenty of venture money funding plenty of smart companies in the private sector who are figuring it out and setting the right path.

The "donut" spare is not so bad. It is there to save you money, not to annoy you and deprive you. Conserving space and weight in a car is to your benefit. Carrying a full spare is like having 2 cinderblocks in your trunk...over a year, it wastes a lot of gas, and these days it's easy not to have a single flat tire in 10 years. The tradeoff is a good one.
When I get a flat, I order a used tire on Ebay. In 2 days, the tire is sitting by my back door from UPS. You can get a used tire with 60% tread for $40, vs. the same tire new for $200+. Take it to any gas station for mounting and balancing for $15. You can buy and mount that used tire 4 times for the cost of one new tire. I do this for my kid's cars as they tend to get flats more often! Has always worked out great. View Comment
Had this car in college...worked to pay for it, all of $2,500. They were only about $6,500 brand new. Same car now would be about $100,000. Diana Ross had owned my car and I bought it from her husband. A week later I found her address book under the driver's seat and mailed it to her. Should have kept it! View Comment
Jayme's a big talent and nobody knows more about what's going on in the town, and the history of same, which is also important in evaluating where to spend money wisely. The next couple of years are going to be all about holding the line on budget, especially in education. We can't keep increasing 6-7% forever. Lots of towns held flat on spending and very many had drastic cuts and survived just fine. View Comment
Darien police are fantastic! I don't even complain when they give me a ticket. They once saved my entire house from flooding while I was away by responding to an alarm, noticing a leak through a window, finding a way in, navigating miles of old and new pipes in the basement, and turning off the correct valve after a ceiling leak had spruing. There was $33,000 in damage but it would have run for days and multiplied many times over if they hadn't figured out exactly what was going on. Any time you need them, they arrive in about 1 minute. Thanks to all of them. View Comment
This is a good move, not fun work to revise a charter, but it can be gradually cleaned up with no repercussion or changes to how the town operates. View Comment
Beautiful story on Tom Luz!! I love the Avanti. When I was in 6th grade, I used to go to downtown New Canaan after school, and walk from the Chevy dealer to sit in the new Corvette Sting Ray, then the Studebaker dealer to sit in the Avanti, and the Buick dealer to sit in the Riviera. The sales people were patient with me, I just loved cars and 1963 was one of the best years in car history, with all these radical new styles. Each of those 3 cars looks fresh today, having been created by some of the world's best designers. View Comment
