A New York gunman cut a plea deal and admitted to killing a Long Island man outside a funeral in Queens earlier this year, authorities announced Tuesday, July 7.
Joseph Stevens, 34, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the death of Richard Carter outside Greater Allen AME Cathedral on April 10, the Queens District Attorney’s office said.
Stevens, of Queens, rode a Citi Bike to the church, went inside and approached the casket, then left the building, investigators said. On his way out, he spotted Carter, ran toward him, and shot him four times, according to authorities.

A Long Island boat crash sent two people to the hospital, and now the boat captain is facing felony charges after leaving the scene, authorities said.
Peter Mangiameli, 57, was piloting a 35-foot cruise boat around 10 p.m. Sunday, July 5, when it struck a jetty in Sag Harbor Bay, New York State Police said.
