Weston Hosts Southern Time Trials For Special Olympics Athletes

WESTON, Conn. -- Athletes of all abilities from across the region have an opportunity to compete in track and field, aquatics, gymnastics and tennis as Special Olympics Connecticut holds its 2015 Southern Time Trials at Weston High School and Weston Middle School.

The event will be on Saturday, May 9, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with opening ceremonies beginning at 8:30 a.m. 

The Southern Time Trials are presented by GE. 

The athletes have completed many months or more of training and preparations. The events are open to the public, and there is no cost to attend.

Over a thousand athletes and Unified Sports partners are expected to participate, representing 33 teams. An additional 200 coaches and 600 volunteers are expected to support the event.

In addition to competition, athletes will have the opportunity to visit Olympic Town -- an area offering entertainment, educational and interactive activities -- and the Healthy Athletes display, where they can learn about sun safety tips during the downtime between their events. 

The Southern Time Trials are the qualifying events for Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games, coming up June 5 to 7.
