The library just completed a project that doubled the existing number of parking spaces, adding 19 spaces for library patrons.
The project — which was completed by Nagy Brothers Construction and managed by Hudson Construction — went well, without any issues or setbacks.
“We had no major hurdles,” Beth Dominianni, the library’s director, told the Daily Voice. “The contractor was extremely professional and sensitive to the needs of the library.”
Last Saturday, the library held a sold-out event, according to Dominani, and the added spaces helped accommodate the influx of patrons.
“People could park with ease,” she said.
The project was funded by a $342,000 Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant from the state Office of Policy and Management.
Local legislators helped to get the grant approved by writing letters and advocating on behalf of the library in Redding. Dominianni praised their efforts.
“We’re extremely grateful to our First Selectman [Julia Pemberton] and our legislators for supporting our grant proposals to the state,” Dominianni said.
Money from the grant also funded an overhaul of the library’s septic system, she said.
The library, which opened in 1910, has seen two major construction projects over the years.
In 1972, the library quadrupled in size. The library further expanded and reconfigured its space in 2000.
