On New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 31, Metro-North will operate a reduced weekday AM Peak schedule, an early afternoon getaway schedule and reduced PM Peak service.

But the New Year’s Eve schedule will include extra late afternoon and early evening inbound service, as well as overnight New Year’s morning service to accommodate revelers.

As in past years, those traveling home after midnight on New Year’s Eve must purchase your train tickets in advance. Tickets will be collected before riders can board trains at Grand Central Terminal. Also, riders are asked to refrain from bringing open containers of alcohol onto trains. Consider the party officially over as you head to Grand Central.

On New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1, Metro-North will operate hourly service. Also, a 5 percent fare hike will go into effect along the New Haven Line in Connecticut on Jan. 1. Read about the fare hike here.
