The new yard will allow for increased capacity and train service along the Danbury Branch, said Redding First Selectman Julia Pemberton.
"Good news for Redding rail commuters," Pemberton said. "Let's GO CT improvements to the Danbury Branch line are a Go! These improvements, which had bipartisan support, will benefit the Town of Redding, Connecticut and the economic viability of the region as a whole. ...
"This is just the beginning in what will be a lengthy process of upgrades. Electrification will follow," she said.
The state funding was a top legislative priority for first selectmen and mayors in Western Connecticut, she said.
"Improving rail service to and from Redding will enhance our status as one of the best small towns in which to live," Pemberton said.
The Danbury Branch runs from South Norwalk to Merritt 7, Wilton, Cannondale, Branchville, West Redding, Bethel and Danbury.
