GREENWICH, Conn. – A Ridgefield, Conn., man has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run accident early Saturday that killed a Middlebury woman, police said.

Vyacheslav Cherepov, 26, of Danbury Road in Ridgefield, has been arrested, Greenwich police said Monday. Meghan Beebe, 21, was killed in the hit-and-run accident.

Cherepov struck Beebe in the parking lot of a Byram-area restaurant early Saturday, police said. He stopped briefly and then drove away, dragging her under his car, police said. A report in Greenwich Patch said the victim was dragged for four blocks.

Cherepov was arrested Sunday after he returned in his car to the William Street parking lot where the accident occurred, police said. Beebe was apparently struck by a red 2006 Pontiac G6 sedan, police said.

A female companion of Beebe’s tried unsuccessfully to stop Cherepov as he drove with Beebe pinned beneath the car, Greenwich police said. Beebe was found lying on the street by an unidentified resident, police said. She was transported to Stamford Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Cherepov was charged with evading responsibility with serious physical injury, police said. Cherepov pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday in state Superior Court in Stamford.

Cherepov also worked at a restaurant near the accident, according to the Patch report. He is a native of Russia who has lived in Connecticut for 13 years.

Beebe had recently fulfilled her graduation requirements at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

what are the odds that this guy had some vodka in his veins? Such a shame. I pray for her family, friends and even the driver.

Broad River:

If nothing else he proved he has ice water running in those veins.

Misscharlotte107:

How very heartbreaking for this young ladies family, to have to live with the horror of their daughters violent death. This inconsiderate lazy B_____d
Couldn't even get out of his car to check and see what he had hit. She may have been saved. Let's pray this guy goes to jail for a long time and then sent back to Russia.

roseplank:

How do you knowingly hit someone and then drag them for four blocks. Such a disregard for life. What has happened to the common decency of mankind. If he stopped after he hit her and got help she might still be here today. Feel for all the family and friends of this young woman. My heart hurts.

Lovedone:

I attended high school with this boy, he was well known for driving aggressively in a very nice car around our small town. It is unfortunate to hear that almost 10 years later he has not grown up at all and took someone's life because of it.

Broad River:

Dragged her for four blocks and returned to the scene days later as if nothing happened ????
She worked as a Treatment Intern at Hampshire County Jail and House of Corrections, helping the least of society and this is her reward! If the Russians would imprison him, I say take his papers!

Wendyporto1:
