Brace for disruptions: Work crews from Aquarion Water Co. are estimating that the repairs will take the entire weekend.
The break occurred near the triangular park in front of the old Post Office, police said. Water erupted from the ground under the cars parked in the diagonal parking spaces along the west side of the street, police said (For a full video, see the Greenwich Police Department's Facebook page.)
The entire west side of Greenwich Avenue along the western curb began to bulge up, "all the way down to the Apple Store with water coming out at various spots," police said.
The easternmost lane of Greenwich Avenue reopened late Friday, police said. But the western most lane and the west side diagonal parking on Greenwich Avenue will remain closed a from Havemeyer Place to Grigg Street for repairs. Only one lane was open in the area late Friday night, according to the Greenwich Dispatch Center.
Water has been shut off in some parts of the affected area along Greenwich Avenue.
Greenwich Police, Greenwich Fire, Eversource and Connecticut Natural Gas all have crews on the scene to do the work.
