Weston Hosts Hazardous Waste Collection Day Saturday

WESTON, Conn. – Weston residents will have the chance to safely dispose of potentially dangerous chemicals from their homes this Saturday. The town will host its annual Hazardous Waste Day on April 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Hazardous Waste Day is designed to help resident get rid of chemicals that may pose health or environmental risks if not properly managed. At the event, volunteers will accept household cleaners, lead-based paints, batteries, herbicides and pesticides, used car fluids and other chemicals.

Motor oil, latex paints and radioactive, explosive or contagious materials will not be accepted. A full list of acceptable and unacceptable items is available at the town website.

Participating residents should place chemicals in a box in their original containers, separated by kitty litter or newspapers. Officials ask that residents keep items in their trunks and stay in their cars until greeted by volunteers.

Residents should be prepared for a long wait in line, officials say. Proof of residency will be required at check-in.

Those interested can take their waste to the Weston Public Works Facility at 78 Old Hyde Road. If you can’t make Saturday’s session, Weston residents are welcome at similar events in Greenwich, Darien, Stamford, Norwalk, New Canaan, Wilton and Westport later this year. See the town website for a full list of available dates.
