Dr. Robert F. Brunhouse, PhD., 64, Of Redding, Research Immunologist

REDDING, Conn. - Robert F. Brunhouse, PhD, of Redding died June 5. He was 64.

Dr. Brunhouse was born May 15, 1949, in San Jose, Calif., to C. Edward Brunhouse, DDS and Margaret A. Brunhouse (nee Simmons). Educated in his youth in San Jose, he was a member of the Willow Glen High School class of 1967. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in Zoology. He was awarded his doctorate from The Johns Hopkins University in Immunology. He completed postdoctoral research fellowships at Stanford University and The Johns Hopkins University. As a graduate student, he taught several summers at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI). He also did research at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel.

Dr. Brunhouse pursued a career as a research immunologist in private industry. He had a long employment with Coulter Laboratories in the Miami, Fla., area and in biotech firms in California’s Santa Clara, Orange and San Diego counties. He also founded and later sold PanAb, a biotech firm. His work led to patents at both Coulter Laboratories and PanAB.

Dr. Brunhouse is survived by his mother; sister, Janet (Thomas C.) Himmelright of Ridgefield; nephew and niece; many cousins; and many friends. He was predeceased by his father; and wife, Judith Anne Brunhouse (nee Rice).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Brunhouse’s memory to any community, hospice, educational institution, research project or support organization, such as the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org), helping those suffering from dementia.
