Kokoska was born to Rose and Francis Kokoska. He graduated from Staples High School in 1959. He was a journeyman carpenter, working for W. Punzelt of Westport. He worked for Charles Griffith of Westport until December 1968. He graduated from Bullard-Tech in Bridgeport. He owned a carpentry business in 1970, The Country Craftsman. He retired in 2007.
He belonged to the Redding Jaycees for many years and at one point was president. He was an active lifetime member of the West Redding Fire Department. For 20 years he served his department as treasurer and was also a fire commissioner for District 2 in Redding. He belonged to the Stamford Fish and Game, Ducks Unlimited, Trout Unlimited, Bridgewater Fish and Game, The Rainbow Club, Salt Water Sports, and Pootatuck Archery.
He also volunteered and worked for the Town of Redding for over 26 years and served as chairman of the Redding Board of Tax Review and Appeal for many years. He joined the Candlewood Camera Club of Danbury.
Kokoska is survived by his wife, Elaine; sons, Steven Kokoska (Mary) in Newtown, Matthew Kokoska (Heidi), and Calli Kokoska; a granddaughter; siblings Fran Johnson in Missouri, Dorothy Bellefeuille (Richard) in Easton, Patty Palmer (Robert) in Maryland, John Kokoska (Joan) in Pennsylvania, Maryann Belta (Greg) in Westport, Rose Corr in Fairfield, Carol Kokoska in Maine, and Thomas Kokoska (Suzie) in Newtown; and numerous cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was predeceased by his parents.
Calling hours are Friday, Dec. 5, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Bouton Funeral Home on Church Street in Georgetown/Wilton (203-544-8461). A High Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. at Saint Patrick's Church on Route 58, Black Rock Turnpike (203-938-2253). There will be a celebratory brunch after the Mass. Those attending the services, friends and family are invited to attend.
