Weston Rep. Shaban Attacks Shortfalls In State Spending Plan

Shaban, who represents Easton, Redding and Weston in the State House, said in a statement: 

“Once again, we face a budget cycle crippled by the same institutional spending problems.

“Early versions of the majority’s proposed budget suggests more accounting tricks to mask our continued increase spending and fuel our expanded state government. This simple issue -- out of control spending -- has caused businesses to leave, revenues to plummet, and another budget hole of nearly $1.3 billion.”  

For the fifth consecutive year, Shaban is a member of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee, which is responsible for raising the money to fund the state government.

Shaban and his Republican colleagues continue to argue that large structural budget shortfalls have put Connecticut’s government in a constant state of fiscal crisis. This continuing crisis, Shaban said, has caused, and will again cause, more tax increases on the residents and employers who have not already fled the state.  

"We need to restore fiscal sanity via cuts in the size and burn rate of our government, and must cease the current majority’s borrow, spend and tax approach that is keeping our state near the bottom in every economic metric," Shaban said. "A stable tax and regulatory environment will return promise and prosperity to our state, not more rhetoric, rules and rate changes.”
