Hwang is running for the seat in Senate District 28, which includes parts of Easton, Fairfield, Weston and Westport. He is running against Democrat Kim Fawcett.

Fairfield residents Hwang and Fawcett both currently serve as representatives in the state House.

The Senate seat is open because longtime state Sen. John McKinney is not running for re-election.
