The nor-easter that struck Saturday dumped more than 14 to 16 inches of snow in Downtown Stamford and more than 12 to 14 inches in North Stamford.
“I will be canceling the snow emergency at 4 p.m. this evening to allow our Operations Department to finish clearing the roads. Vehicles will be allowed to remain in city garages until 10 a.m. Monday,” said Martin.
“The City of Stamford Operations Department has been working hard to ensure that city roads are clear and safe for driving. Residents are asked to continue to avoid being on the roads unless necessary until operations are complete. I also ask that residents keep safe while cleaning up, driving, or while outdoors enjoying the snow.”
Martin said that hazardous road conditions still exist. and residents were urged to use caution while driving and walking.
Unsafe road conditions should be reported to the Police nonemergency number at 203-977-4444.
As of Sunday morning, more than 78 vehicles had been towed from snow emergency routes. Vehicles are to remain off snow emergency routes until after 4 p.m. Sunday when the snow emergency is rescinded or be subject to ticketing and towing.
During the storm, the city of Stamford had no power outages reported. A total of 19 motor vehicle accidents occurred, with two minor injuries.
A water main break was reported on Sea Beach Drive, and Aquarion was making repairs.
Operations crews, made up of 81 workers from the highways, facilities, parks and other city departments, will continue to clean up, using utilizing more than 50 plows and other equipment.
After the snow emergency is canceled, residents who need to recover their vehicles should call 203-977-4444, provide a license plate number and directions will be provided.
