EASTON, Conn. Race organizers might consider a name change for the Pat Griskus Olympic Triathlon. Over the past six years, Eastons Chris Thomas has owned the thing.
Thomas, 40, won the race for the sixth straight year Saturday in Middlebury. He finished in 2:01:58, and won by 4:38 over runner-up Alex Libin of Iowa City, Iowa. The race consisted of a one-mile swim, a 40-kilometer (24.8 mile) bike ride and a 10K (6.2 mile) run.
Thomas posted the 15th best time in the swim, but turned on the jets in the final two legs. His time of 1:01.50 for the bike ride was the best in the field, which featured 349 finishers. His time of 33:36 in the 10k run tied Libin for best finish. Results are online.
Earlier this month, Thomas qualified for the Ironman World Championships with a ninth place finish at the 70.3-mile Eagleman race in Columbia, Md. Thomas is the owner of Personal Training Professionals in Southport.
Other Fairfield County runners had top finishes at Middlebury as well. Norwalk's Nick Logan finished 22nd, Gregory Behar of Wilton was 27th and Joseph Kay Turscany of Darien was 28th. Reenie Parker of Greenwich took second in the women's 50-54 age group, followed by Old Greenwich's Karen Newman and Greenwich's Anne Zenker. John Wilson of New Canaan was third in the men's 50-54 age group, and Daniel Rose of Fairfield was third in the men's 65-69 age group.
