Duo Gunned Down 'Fun-Filled' 16-Year-Old After Breaking Into Troy Home, Jury Finds
Two of three defendants have been convicted for their roles in the shooting death of a 16-year-old boy from the region.
A Rensselaer County jury found Ramel Gulley, age 29, of Schenectady, and William Webb, age 30, of Brooklyn, guilty of second-degree murder on Friday, March 22, in the killing of Christopher Anthony.
Prosecutors said Gulley, Webb, and a third defendant forced their way into Anthony’s Troy home, located near River Street and Glen Avenue, on Jan. 5, 2022.

One of the two men accused of killing Chasity Nunez and her 11-year-old daughter Zella will not fight extradition from San Diego, California, and will be returned to Worcester to stand trial for the fatal shooting, officials said on Friday, March 15.
Dejan Belnavis, 27, and Karel Mangual, 28, are accused of ambushing the Nunezes as they sat in their SUV near the intersection of Lisbon Street and Englewood Avenue on March 5, Worcester police said.

Newark Man Convicted Of Fatally Stabbing, Strangling Girlfriend: Prosecutors
Nasean Torres, a 49-year-old Newark man was convicted of murder on Thursday, Dec. 14 for fatally stabbing and strangling his longtime girlfriend in July 22, authorities said.
On July 22, police responded to 47 Palm St. in Newark and found Elizabeth Kelley, 55, lying in the basement floor of her home, Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II said. It was determined she died from manual strangulation and multiple stab wounds, Stephens said.

A jury has found a 24-year-old man guilty of stabbing his friend to death during an altercation at a home in the region.
Jaquan Morrison, of Schenectady, was convicted of murder in Schenectady County Court on Friday, Dec. 8, in the killing of 21-year-old Dwayne Harris.
Prosecutors said Harris allowed Morrison to stay at a Schenectady home, located on Maple Avenue, that he shared with several roommates in April 2022.
However, on the morning of April 12, Morrison got into an altercation with one of the other roommates and everyone demanded that he leave the home.

Leaundra Matthews, 25, of Accokeek, was found guilty of second-degree murder for the death of her brother, Christian Matthews, who was strangled during an attack by Matthews' boyfriend, Tyson Lipford and another man, Daniel Howard, while he was asleep in their family's Silver Spring home in March 2017.

A 29-year-old Cumberland County man has been sentenced to 40 years in New Jersey State Prison for a fatal shooting, authorities said.
Frank J. Baker, of Seabrook, was sentenced in connection with the murder of Jair Rennie, 22, according to Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae.
Baker apparently was jealous of his ex girlfriend’s new boyfriend, so shot him four times, prosecutors have said.
