A Rockland County community is rallying around a family after a well-known mother of two died following a more than 12-year battle with cancer.
Orangetown resident Jamie O'Connell died on Tuesday, Aug. 25, after battling cancer for 12 and a half years, according to her loved ones.
O'Connell was remembered as a devoted mother to her two children, Kensie and Kellan, and a loving wife to her husband, Kevin.

Abused Dog Found With Open Wounds, Fly Infestation In New York: Authorities
A Long Island man was arrested after his dog was found infested with flies and suffering from open wounds, authorities said.
Cecilio Matthews, 50, of Bellport, was charged with several counts of animal cruelty under state and county laws, the Suffolk County SPCA said Wednesday, Aug. 26.
Investigators determined earlier in the month that Matthews had failed to care for his 10-year-old mutt, Seven, leaving the dog neglected in a yard, according to the SPCA.

Northwell Among 14 Health Systems Honored For Age-Friendly Care
Northwell Health has earned national recognition for bringing age-friendly care practices across the system.
The health system received the “Excellence in System-Wide Spread” recognition from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.
